PAY
Pay increases for all adjuncts start with a 34 percent first-year raise, or 8 percent if you make more than the current minimum rates. Most adjuncts will leap from $149.25 per contact hour to $200. Annual raises will follow: 3.5, 3.5, 3.75, 6, and 6 percent. All pay increases are retroactive to the start of the fall 2022 semester. Also, for the first time, adjuncts will receive admin pay for work done outside the classroom: $2,000 per class, per semester for a 4-credit course; $1,500 for a 3-credit course; and $1,000 for non-credit, no-credit, 1-credit, or 2-credit courses. Admin pay will follow the same raise schedule listed above. And, again for the first time, adjuncts will receive longevity pay for years worked at NYU: $140 per year, with a max of $1,400. Going forward, all adjuncts will receive a $1,500 longevity bonus every five years. COVID PAY In recognition for service during the COVID pandemic, NYU will pay out a minimum of $2,000 to all current adjuncts who taught between March 2020 and January 2022. This is the same payment offered to full-time faculty. PARITY Starting now, and achieving equal pay after three years, clinical nurses and adjuncts who teach studio classes in art and performance will receive additional raises until they are paid at the standard lecture rate, correcting an 18-year imbalance. APPOINTMENTS AND REAPPOINTMENTS All adjuncts will receive detailed appointment letters. Reappointment rights will accrue faster -- two years for most -- and include stronger protections against low enrollment and curriculum change. Appointments canceled less than 14 days before your first class pay 20 percent of the full semester. HEALTH INSURANCE For the first time, in 2024 all adjuncts and their families will be offered subsidies for health insurance, with rates based on contact hours per year:
Starting in 2024 adjuncts will receive a 5 percent retirement contribution from NYU and may participate in a matching plan for up to 5 percent more. This is the same plan offered to full-time faculty. OTHER ITEMS The union also made several other important gains: a $100,000 technology reimbursement fund, $200,000 for professional development, increases for course development and course conversion, winter semesters count toward benefits, shorter probations, no limits on the number of courses you can teach, more opportunities for unpaid time off, 191 percent raise for independent study, 100-276 percent raises for Gallatin duties, 78 percent raises for Masters Thesis and Capstone, and $65 an hour for defined other duties.
