Supervisory Limits (Article XIII)
 
In Employment Status, Article XIII, the union won important provisions regarding trainees. The key relevant provision is that no individual SHS counseling staff shall supervise more than four trainees on an individual basis annually. Fighting for this clause arose from concerns that the university would seek to increase the number of trainees and eliminate staff positions by having staff supervise larger numbers of trainees, which the union believes is both unsafe and unethical. We have strong concerns about maintaining a good balance of seasoned staff, who are clinically sophisticated and know the inner workings of the university’s student support systems, with trainees in the early stages of their clinical training and development.
