In June of 2020, the union membership voted to ratify a temporary "Memorandum of Agreement" (MOA) that extends the existing contract and adds additional provisions for pandemic planning. You can download the full MOA, however a summary is below.
UPDATE: A vote to extend the MOA was ratified December 4, 2021. Members of the part-time faculty unit voted overwhelmingly in favor of the extension which will now expire on August 13, 2022.
Final Vote Tally
YES: 447
NO: 5
ABSTAIN: 5
TOTAL: 457
Extending the MOA offers additional protection and flexibility for faculty with base loads and allows more members to remain eligible for healthcare as we negotiate our next long-term contract in 2022. Pension contributions for eligible members were restored this fall as of September 1.
Spring 22 appointment letters will be sent on December 15 and we will return to the regular appointment calendar for next academic year. Details below:
Now that the extension has been ratified we must fully turn our attention to preparing for upcoming contract negotiations. Members have already begun organizing in every school and department across the University and we will be electing a bargaining committee of part-time faculty representatives in January (process and timeline will be announced by the end of the semester).
Your voice is needed! Get more involved in our organizing, by emailing organizer@actuaw.org. The more part-time faculty involved, the stronger we are.
