The adjunct retirement plan is a union-won benefit. This benefit will change in academic year 2023-24. Currently, after you've taught as an adjunct for three years, the university will make a contribution to an NYU Supplemental Tax Deferred Annuity Plan with the same investment options available to full-time faculty.
More specifically, if you taught at least 40 contact hours in one semester in each of the three previous academic years the university will contribute 6 percent of your previous academic year’s pay to your account around December 1. To be clear, this benefit kicks in after you've worked for three years -- it does not start during the third year. The university set up the plan, currently with TIAA, and makes the contribution automatically once you have become eligible and should notify you prior to December 1. You may also make an additional contribution of your own. To do so, contact the NYU benefits office. If you think you are eligible but did not receive your contribution, contact the union and PeopleLink right away. |
