One of the main tools we have as members of a union is the grievance procedure.
Many faculty issues can be resolved simply by contacting a union representative and the representative can guide you through your contractual rights and offer suggestions for resolution with administration. If the university is in violation of the contract, and the issue cannot be resolved informally, then a formal grievance can be filed, and the union will set up a meeting with university officials. This may take one or more meetings. The university will propose a solution to the issue. However, if you and your representative are not satisfied with the resolution, the case can be appealed to a third-party arbiter as outlined in our contract. |
